Remember When

Remember when Fort Mac’s population
Was around twenty five grand.
And for less than one hundred thousand
You could get a nice home with a piece of land.
Remember when tuning in your radio
1230 CJOK was the only song around,
On a narrow strip of asphalt with no shoulders
As you travelled south, Edmonton bound.
Remember when Thickwood Boulevard
Ended at the fire hall,
Beyond there was only swamp and trees
And the beavers mating call.
Remember when it wasn’t called Suncor
It was the Great Canadian Oil Sand,
When Robin’s Donuts was the place to go
Prior to Tim Horton’s great demand.
Remember when there were no traffic jams
When sirens weren’t a common sound,
Remember all those years ago
We weren’t a city, just a little town.
